Procedure:
-
Select a favorite classroom book
-
Ask children to make/draw their own pages following the book's format.
-
Tell children we can make a book with their pictures on the computer.
Ask if anyone has ever made a book on the computer before?
-
Tell children we are going to use a program called Power Point.
Power
Point is going to help us make our book.
-
Pick a slide to use for the show. Examine (with children) the different
options.
-
Insert a scanned picture onto a slide.
-
Have a child type his or her first name into the heading box.
-
Have him read his page to you or remind him of what his page says.
"In go some...."
-
Ask him to say his words into the microphone. Use the Sound Recording
option in the Entertainment and Accessories section of the PC to record
his voice.
-
Play the recording for the child to make sure it is of good quality.
-
Save each Wave file with the child's name. Make sure to open a new
file before recording the next child.
-
Next, demonstrate for children how to insert the voice recording on to
the slide with their pictures.
-
Play each slide individually. Once each child has made a slide, play
the completed slide show.
-
Ask parents to bring in a blank CD. Use the CD-RW to make a copy
for the families who'd like one.
Note: Our original book was made using Power Point.
For this website, I made a webpage for each child (containing their drawings,
typed words and voice recording) and created links between them.
