Procedure:
  • Collect paper rolls for a couple of weeks (until there is one for each student).  Ask parents to donate cardboard paper rolls if possible. If accepting toilet paper roll donations, ask for full rolls (sanitary and health issues).  The toilet paper can be used in a sensory table to make Clean Mud.
  • Cover rolls with construction paper to serve as a backing.
  • Have the children glue the construction paper onto the rolls.  Cut or fold over excess paper.
  • Print each child's picture according to the size of the roll being used.  We printed these photos using Adobe Photo Deluxe.  We had children find his/her individual photo by locating their names on the files.
  • Cut out pictures leaving a small white border around each child.
  • Glue the photographs onto the construction paper.
  • Once the glue is completely dry, cover the rolls with clear laminate or contact paper to increase their durability.
  • Children can use these replicas of themselves along with the blocks or doll houses.
  • Videotape their use of the dolls to see social issues and conflicts between children that should be furthered discussed at a later date.
