Dr. Sonia M. Tiquia, Assistant Professor of Microbiology, and her students, presented their research findings at the American Society for Microbiology Regional Meeting held at Traverse City October 13, 2007.

Two of her students (Sarah Plecha and Danielle Hall) won the first place in the poster competition. The title of their poster was "Screening and Characterization of Soil Microbes Capable of Degrading Cellulose from Switchgrass Panicum virgatum". This was the project they worked with over the summer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Given that Sarah competed with other students from Michigan State University, Michigan Technological University, Central Michigan University, Western Michigan University, and Aquinas College, it is quite an accomplishment.
