The University of Michigan - Dearborn is pleased to host the Fifth Conversations among Colleagues Conference Saturday March 21, 2009.




                                                               Randy Philipp from San Diego State University will

                                                                provide the keynote presentation:


                                                                Motivating Prospective Elementary School Teachers to   

                                                                Learn Mathematics by Focusing Upon Children’s

                                                                Mathematical Thinking





            Pat Herbst from University of Michigan-Ann Arbor

            will give the closing session:

           

            What 'Doing Mathematics' Could Look Like

            in High School



Additional speakers include: Hyman Bass and Deborah L. Ball (UM-Ann Arbor), Betty Phillips (MSU), Judith Jacobs (UM-Ann Arbor), Asli Koca-Ozgun (WSU), Stephen Blair (EMU)).


Presentations will relate to the conference theme "What Does It Mean To Do Mathematics?" Presenters will engage participants in thinking together about aspects of mathematics problem solving, reasoning, representation, and proof, and how our understanding of these processes may inform and support work in teacher education and professional development.
