CIS 479 AI Presentation

Summer 2020

You will be required to make an oral presentation on the broad topic the impact of AI on the global society. I hope you will find inspiration for a topics in the following paragraphs.

Artificial intelligence (as well all of computer science) seems to be under attack from individuals who fear the computer software can eliminate the need for human control and judgment. Web-based intelligent systems have the ability to provide expert consultations to all member of society at little or no cost. There are justifiable concerns about who has vetted such systems and how their safe use is ensured.

Any knowledge engineering task is doomed to failure if the engineer does not take time to understand and appreciate diverse nature of both the users and the context in which the application will be used. A tremendous amount of the effort used to create any piece of software goes into localizing the software to meet the needs of users in a particular region world. This effort must be balanced against the desire to make the software both safe and useful in as many portions of the global economy as possible.

You send me an e-mail with your topic for my approval 6/01/20. Oral presentations (5 to 10 minutes) will need to be uploaded to canvas. You are expected to make appropriate use of AV materials (posters, demonstration, power point, transparencies, handouts, etc.) during your presentation. You must focus on the AI principles that influenced your work. Your presentation materials need to be uploaded due no later than the last day of class on 6/19/19. You may submit video file or a YouTube link or powerpoint slides with an audio track (or printed script).
