CIS 488/588 Assignment 1

Winter 2016

For your term project you will need to work as part of a team to design and implement a complete computer game. You may create any type of game you wish and should implement it using UDK (or another tool approved by me). Your game will need to demonstrate a significant attention to 3D graphics and game artificial intelligence. Your team will need to have the final game running at the game fair during our final exam period. Grad students may work by themselves.

This assignment will give you an opportunity to begin work on the specification and design for your game. You will need to create a pitch document (game treatment) for a game. The game should be original and cannot copy an existing game. Please pay attention to the guidelines on the next page when you consider your initial game design. To receive full credit your design document will need to contain non-trivial sections as defined below.

Executive Summary

·         Abstract of game story

Game Play Look and Feel

·         Appearance

·         Player roles and actions

·         Strategies and motivations

·         Level summary/story progression

Development Specification

·         Hardware

·         Software

·         Algorithm Style

Your write up should be 2 to 4 pages long. On 1-13-16, you will make a pitch for your game, using appropriate AV support. Distance learning students may present in person or submit a powerpoint with audio or a video. Figure that you will have no more than 8 minutes to explain your game concept. The class will select 4 or 5 game treatments to submit for possible development. We will review the game treatments on 1-13-16 and organize into teams before class meets on January 20.
