CIS 579 Term Project
Summer 2015

There will be no final exam in this course. Instead you will be required to select a project that involves research on an AI topic or design of an intelligent system. You do not necessarily need implement your design. You will be required to make an oral presentation of your project to the class. Project presentations will be scheduled after the last day of class.

You may present with a partner on a topic that is sufficiently large enough to warrant two people working together. However, both people must contribute equally to the oral presentation and each partner will be graded separately. You are to submit your project idea (in written form) for my approval no later than June 1st. For your project you may choose from among the following options:

  1. Write a 20 to 30 page term paper discussing some facet of AI theory or its application in some discipline.
  2. Complete a software development project utilizing any tools you wish accompanied by a 5-10 page report discussing the AI concepts utilized.
  3. Build a significant web site dealing with some AI topic not covered in detail during this course, accompanied by a 5 page annotated bibliography on the topic.
  4. Conduct experiments on intelligent agents using the Lego Mindstorms robots (or comparable product) and write a 5-10 page report.
  5. Devise a comparable project of your own and have it approved by me.

Oral project presentations (10 to 15 minutes) will take place on Wed, 6/24/15 from 6:00 to 9:30 pm. You are expected to make appropriate use of AV materials (demonstration, power point slides, transparencies, posters, handouts, etc.) during your presentation. Commented source listings of any software products developed are to be turned in as well. Your presentation outline and project deliverables are due on or before 6/26/15. Distance learning students may submit a video tape or powerpoint with audio or the equivalent (skype, web meeting, etc.) in place of a live presentation.
