Steps for Writing a Literature Review

1.    Stage One: Annotated Bibliography.  As you read articles, books, etc., on your topic, write a brief critical synopsis of each. The goal is to get accurate critical summaries of each individual work.

2.    Stage Two:  Thematic Organization.  Organize the major themes from each work into the categories or sub-themes of your main theme.  Write some brief paragraphs outlining your categories, how they relate each other, and to your overall theme.

3.    Stage Three:  More Reading.  You may want to drop some less relevant articles and look for new papers to review.  Integrate any new readings into your literature review draft.

4.    Stage Four:  Write Individual Sections.  For each section,  use your annotations to write a section which discusses the articles relevant to that sub-theme. Use the articles as evidence to support your critique of the theme rather than discussing each article individually.

5.    Stage Five:  Integrate Sections.  Tie the thematic sections together with an introduction, conclusion, and some additions/ revisions in the sections to show how they relate to each other and to your overall theme.

Evaluation

You need to upload your paper to Canvas as a Word or PDF file by June 12th. Your paper will be evaluated for the quality of writing, its organization, and the significance of the papers chosen to review. I would suggest limiting your search to ACM, IEEE, or AAAI publications or conferences.

You will need to upload a powerpoint  with audio  (skype, web meeting, etc.) or video (.mp4, .mov, you tube) equivalent of a 5-10 minute presentation of your paper to Canvas by 6-19-19.
