CIS 488/588 Project 1

Winter 2005

Your first assignment will be to use the Soar intelligent architecture to create an intelligent agent. In this assignment you are to design and implement a new Tank agent and then evaluate its performance by competing against the Tank agents created by your classmates. You may work with a partner if you wish. If you work in a partner each person is to be assigned a percentage grade (indicating the contribution to total project by each partner).

To begin your work you need to go to the Soar home page http://sitemaker.umich.edu/soar . Download Soar Suite 8.5.2 that will include the following files: Soar Tutorial Parts 1 - 5 (pdf), SOAR Eaters Win32, Tank-Soar Win32 and the Soar 8 Manual (pdf). You will need to work through both parts 1 – 3 of the Soar tutorial.

You may base your new Tank agent on one of the tutorial agents. You should then implement your agent and run it against each of the Tank agents from the tutorial. On Wednesday 1/19/05 you will run your Tank agent against each of your classmate’s tank agents. You will then need to write a short report describing the differences in performance between your Tank and each of the others.

You will need to turn in an annotated file listing of your agent code and report. You also need to turn in whatever hardcopy you are able to generate documenting the results of your competitive test data runs.
