Manatee Daughter

For Christmas, 1998, my co-worker, Sandy, gifted me with a manatee adoption through Save the Manatee Club.  I am the official adoptive parent of Lucille, an endangered West Indian Manatee at Blue Spring State Park in Florida.  I have continued through 2001 as her adoptive mom.  My son, Darren, states that my adopted daughter looks just like me. This is Lucille. (above picture)  She has lost part of her front left fin and most of her front right fin due to fishing lines being tangled so tight that a cut becomes a wedge and the end of the fin dies and falls off.

Humans are the manatee's worst enemy.  They are very close to extinction.
