"Do or do not. There is no try." ~ Yoda

For most of my life, I'd been trying to learn to juggle. Not having the first clue of *how* to do it though, the art seemed near-impossible. However, a long time ago at a certain museum where I used to work, a co-worker taught me on a quiet Christmas Eve day. We had nothing to do at work so Jim said, "So you wanna learn how to juggle?" He spent most of the day teaching me the 3-ball cascade and by the end of that day, I could basically do it!

A few months later, I learned that my city had a
juggling club and I finally got up the courage to go and see what they were all about. I made friends with some terrific folks who were both experienced & as new to juggling as I was. I learned so much from them in the time that the DH Juggling Club existed. Brian lent me an old set of his clubs and I spent the warmest winter days outside learning to do the cascade (what you see in the picture here). With their help, I learned a lot of juggling skills which I am still working to perfect.

Why juggle? For me, it's just a lot of fun. I don't juggle well enough to perform for others (unless seeing me get hit by the clubs is entertainment!) It's also great exercise and a sort of meditative state for me, pouring my energy into keep the balls and clubs aloft and pulling off the tricks without getting hit!

For those of you who read this that know anything about juggling, here's my list of tricks:

  • 3 ball/club cascade
  • Yo yo
  • Oy oy
  • Reverse shower (3-ball)
  • 4-ball cascade and columns
  • Mill's Mess
  • Church window (still working on that one)
  • Ping-Pong
  • Doubles - with clubs
  • Rainbow - with clubs (still working on that one too)
