Welcome to Physics 406

Statistical and Thermal Physics

John F. Devlin, Instructor

Physics 406 concerns the connections between thermodynamics (the classical study of heat and heat processes) and statistical mechanics (the study of physical processes based on microscopic information concerning the behavior of atoms and molecules at their most fundamental level). This is an upper level undergraduate course required of physics majors and those majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering.   Some of the topics covered are represented by the figures below.
