Textbook

• "Calculus" (7th Edition) by Stewart (Do NOT get "Early Transcendentals" version) or Calculus Bundle from the Bookstore
• Possibly cheaper buying option of the UM-D bundle
• Will roughly cover Chapters 6, 7, 8, 10, and 11 of the Textbook

Catalog Description

Inverse functions, techniques of integration, improper integral, Taylor's theorem, topics in analytic geometry, polar coordinates, and parametric equations, infinite sequences and series. This course includes computer labs. Students cannot receive credit for both MATH 114 and MATH 116.

Two Gateway Exams (see below) might also affect your grade: 1/3 of letter grade will be dropped for not passing a Gateway by deadline, e.g., B+ to B, etc.

A few classes on MATHEMATICA Lab followed by a few Lab Homework sets.

• One of the Labs, 2046 CB or 2048 CB, is open during the following hours:
  • Mon: 1:40–8pm
  • Tue: 10am–1pm, 2:30–8pm
  • Wed: 10am–8pm
  • Thu: 10am–1pm, 2:30–8pm
  • Fri: 10–11:30am, 12:30–3pm

• About 8–10 quizzes (lowest score dropped)

Gateway Exams

• Two Gateways:
  1. Derivative Gateway (including integration by substitution)
  • Date: Opens on Jan 16 (Wed). Due Jan 31 (Thu)
  2. Integral Gateway
  • Date: Opens on TBA (TBA). Due TBA (TBA)
• Where: Math Learning Center (2076 CASL Building)
• Hours: Mon–Thu 8:30am–6:30pm, Fri 9:00am–11:30am
• Up to Three times a day; there has to be 30min interval between two consecutive tries.
• The passing grade is 5/7.

Exams

• No makeup exams
• No calculators
• One cheatsheet in each of the midterms and Two in the final
• Midterms: 75min each
• Final: 2.5hr
