Chemistry Advising

All declared chemistry majors are required to speak to an advisor once a year before registration for the Winter term. Advising is shared by Drs. Lawson and Smith and Angela Allen (Chem. Instructional Track). Please don't wait until November to see us if you have a question. You're welcome to come by anytime.

Suggested Curriculum

We have developed this 4-year curriculum for chemistry majors. This schedule is not required but it is the surest way to get through all your required courses in the shortest amount of time. Note that no summer classes are included in this schedule; you can lighten your load in the regular year by fitting in distribution requirements in the summer where possible.

Research

We strongly recommend that students consider some kind of research experience or coop experience. Chem 499 (Laboratory Research in Chemistry) can be counted as one of the 300-level elective courses. Many of our faculty maintain active research labs. If you're interested in doing research with one of them, check out their webpages or make an appointment to find out more.

Pre- Professional Advising

If you're thinking about Med School, Dental, Pharmacy etc, Dr Mark DeCamp is your man. Dr. DeCamp serves as the Pre-Professional advisor and he has the scoop on what the schools like to see.
