Computing & Statistics

Central to all Astronomy research but usually a large gap in undergraduate education (partly because the emphasis is always somewhat specialized to research field).

Recordkeeping

Accurate, permanent note-taking is essential for the success of a research group.

  • I recommend that you keep an electronic record (one dated note per work session) online.

  • I strongly recommend keeping a bound lab-book as well. It's always useful to be able to sketch diagrams and find them later. Lab books are kept in SBCW 2216. Please let me know if you want to use a new lab book (since I have to keep track of the supply).

    Online logbooks

Students in this group often find it useful to maintain online notebooks. I use google docs / sheets to do this. These are maintained individually by the student rather than through this group website.
