Day 2

Day 2: Denver (via Longmont)

The drive from Ft. Collins to Longmont was increasingly cloudy. The weather channel called for snow today and the temperature is dropping fast so it just might happen.

We couldn't let that deter our trip for good beer and great sights.

We were a tad hungover from the previous evening when we arrived at Pumphouse in Longmont. The food was a little better than typical pub grub. We did not get a pint of any of the beers but we did try a couple.

Passion Fruit Wheat - Sounds similar to Kona's weizen and tasted similar too. Interesting fruity flavor that makes a tasty, light, summer hefe.

Espresso Infused Imperial Stout - This beer had a great coffee flavor and really showed some promise from the taster I had. The espresso did well to mask any alcohol from the Imperial.

Mural in Queen Anne B&B
When we left Longmont, we headed into Denver to check into the Queen Anne Bed & Breakfast, just a few blocks from downtown and Coors Field...lots more! The Queene Anne was a great place to stay with competetive pricing compared with most downtown hotels. Also, there was a cool mural in our room of what the park outside looked like a hundred years prior. After checking in, we headed out for Great Divide's Tap Room! By the time we left the B&B, it had started snowing, making for a more interesting walk.

Great Divide has a similar policy as New Belgium. You can get a flight with any four of their beers currently offered. We maximized our tastings by getting different beers each. Although most of GD's stuff is available in GA and NC (our homes), we were able to try a few we hadn't gotten around to trying yet (e.g., Wild Raspberry Ale). My favorite is still the Oak Aged Yeti but my Dad was quite fond of the Wild Raspberry. Neither of us had any desire to finish the small taster of Samurai, oh well...
