About Me

My name is Long Nguyen and I am a Senior studying Electrical Engineering. I live in Canton, MI and attended Salem High School from 2013-2017. My interest in electrical engineering originates from my time in my high school's STEM program, where I spent a majority of my time tinkering with homemade go-karts and breaking consumer electronics.

I have been attending UM-Dearborn since Fall 2017 and am anticipating to graduate in Winter 2021. Some major classess that I have taken are: Microprocessors, Analog and Digital signal analysis, Electronic Circuits 1, Computer Methods in ECE 1, and Digital Systems. Some of my interests in E.E. are in microprocessor system design and circuit analysis.

In addition to my schooling, I find new ways to apply my knowledge by doing internships and co-ops. Every summer I try to find new companies and organizations to practice and hone the skills that I learned over the school semesters (with varying degrees of success).

My first internship was at Hella Electronics in Plymouth, MI. where I worked with their systems engineering team from June 2017 to May 2018. Some of the products that I worked on were the group's Power Folding Seat Module. In the PFSM project I found and analyzed points in operation where the module received irregular voltage spikes from the power supply. These spikes would result in the seat motors to lock up and require reset. By isolating these events I was able to assist the team in developing hardware changes to prevent these events from occuring.

My second internship was at Bosch USA in Plymouth, MI, from June 2019 to August 2019. One of my major assignments there was performing power dissipation analysis on their new Body Control Modules (BCM). My work involved testing the power draw from central computing components and comparing their draw to the surface temperature of the die. This analysis assisted the group in determining the appropriate measures to properly dissipate the heat from the chips for optimal operation. In addition, I was placed in charge of the Build-of-Materials for the latest GM body control computer in development. I ensured that any changes in design or components were documented and that production dates were met.

In between writing lab reports and studying for my next midterm, I like to spend my free time playing videogames, finding and listening to new music, reading, day trading, and listening to podcasts. One of my favorite podcasts to binge right now is Revolutions by Mike Duncan. It is a fantastic listen that covers all major world revolutions from the English Revolution onward. If you're a history buff or need something to fall asleep to, this podcast is a great listen.
